UK Abandoned “There’s talk of visiting a morgue with a porcelain slab on Sunday” the message from Proj3ct M4yh3m read. I don’t even remember typing the response, but glancing over my screen “Count me in” was sure enough the message I’d sent without even thinking about it!
There’s something about porcelain slabs. I have no idea what the attraction is, maybe the scarcity of them now-a-days, a throwback from Victorian times they conjure up images of barbarian butchery of the human body, often associated with the medical procedures of times gone by. Anyway, whatever the attraction, looking over the very few pictures of this place I certainly wanted a visit.
Fast forward to the weekend and I find myself walking along a leafy lane towards a hospital further up the hill, Mr M4yh3m and Peter C4 in tow. Not exactly sure which building it is, but not exactly strangers to mortuaries either(!) we soon figure it out.
The building, as is often the case with morgues, is a bit of a Tardis housing the examination room with remaining porcelain slab, body storage room, chapel and a few small facility rooms inside the tiny façade. Most rooms now empty, the mortuary has been abandoned for a good few years and shows no damage caused by kids or metal thieves, only natural decay. Peely paint galore throughout!
