Hospitals and Asylums
Established as a tuberculosis settlement in 1918, the Royal Papworth Hospital grew to be a world-leading heart and lung hospital, and moved to new premises in 2019
Opening in 1908 the Cardiff City Asylum had space for 750 psychiatric patients. The hospital closed in 2016 after being deemed unsuitable for modern services.
Alder Hey Children's Hospital was founded in 1914. A new hospital was built in 2015 to replace the old buildings so we had a look around while they moved out.
