An historic hotel in Ashby that became a popular wedding venue. The hotel closed in 2018.
Built in 1826, the historic Royal Hotel in Ashby-de-la-Zouch is an important part of the town’s heritage. The hotel was built next door to Ivanhoe Baths, a popular spa that had opened four years earlier, in order to accommodate it’s visitors. By 1884 the baths had closed and stood derelict for many years, and were finally demolished in 1962. The Royal Hotel reinvented itself and became a popular venue for weddings and functions.
By 2015 the hotel was operating at a loss, and was sustained by the owners until its closure in March 2018.
I worked in this Hotel a few years back .. used to do Silver Service … fond memories a manager at the time was MR Selino .. he was an Italian man and very keen on his job … all the table settings had to be perfect when set and the Cutlery washed in a bowl and polished before use .

Thank you for the pictures and history. We love seeing inside these treasures.
So sad that this beautiful building is boarded up, with no life within. The stories that it could tell!
Such a nice building, it is a shame it’s disused
I would love to look around this magnificent building. If i had money i could do sooo much with this place, restore a sense of pomp and luxury to it so make each person who visited would feel like royalty themselves. I hope they restore this place. The architecture is absolutely beautiful.
I had my wedding reception in The Royal Hotel 25yrs ago. So sad to see it let go, but hopefully that’ll change as work seems to be happening on it right now.
