Hotel Thermale was a hotel in France. Water from local springs was used in mineral baths, and was believed to have curing properties.
Globe Mills were built in 1887-9 by the newly established Globe Worsted company of Slaithwaite in the Clone Valley near Huddersfield. The site is now being redeveloped.
An Art Deco styled synagogue was built in the 1930’s to a radical new design. This place for Jewish worship has a stunning huge space and plenty of items left behind.
Severalls Asylum opened as a mental hospital in 1913. The simple but elegant buildings contain some amazing corridors and doors. The hospital closed in the early 1990’s.
The Victorian built St Georges hospital opened as a ‘lunatic asylum’ in the late 1850’s. It later became a general purpose NHS hospital until its closure.
The Chocolate Works in York was built by Terry’s in 1924 and produced chocolates and other confectioneries until 2005, the grand staircase of the admin block still remains.
